The name Mark Twain is a pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens
. Clemens was an American humorist, journalist, lecturer, and novelist who acquired international fame for his travel narratives especially The Innocents Abroad (1869), Roughing It (1872), and Life on the Mississippi.
Some of his most popular tales like the The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn connect easily with a wide range of young audience.He became a popular public figure and one of America’s best and most beloved writers.
Twain was born shortly after an appearance of Halley’s Comet, and he predicted that he would “go out with it” as well; he died the day after the comet returned. He was lauded as the “greatest humorist this country has produced”,and William Faulkner called him “the father of American literature”
